Crime rates on college campuses are trending upward, according to data from the U.S. Department of Education. To help campus housing and security officers who are looking to improve their schools’ security protocol, KeyTrak will be highlighting its electronic key control systems at three higher education conferences, respectively sponsored by the international and northeast chapters of the Association of College and University Housing Officers and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administration Conference.

At the events, which take place in June, KeyTrak will show attendees how KeyTrak electronic key control systems can limit unauthorized access to keys and provide a 100 percent automatic verifiable audit trail.

“Restricting access to keys and keeping and removing the possibility of human error from audit trail creation is a crucial part of increasing campus safety,” said KeyTrak Vice President of Sales Richard Battle. “By automating the key control process, campuses can reduce the school’s risk of loss, liability and lawsuits.”

KeyTrak’s high-security system, called the Guardian Versatile SmartPanel (VSP), allows users to store keys in a tamper-resistant steel panel. It can restrict access to sensitive keys by allowing users to lock down each key ring individually, physically preventing unauthorized users from obtaining keys. Users are authenticated via one or more methods, such as the built-in fingerprint reader, an optional proximity card reader or user-specific passcodes.

To increase accountability, the Guardian VSP has the ability to send administrators text alerts for invalid logon attempts, overdue keys, etc.
